Snake Skin

This is for those who, like me, are at least a little bit afraid of growing up…..

I am a snake
Shedding the skin of my youth
I itch and I twitch
Flakes of skin fall off
They are long-dead
But others are still attached
Though I try to peel them off
Or others are dying
But I don’t want to let them go

I understand
I can’t hold on forever
But please
Grant me just a little more time
To cling to this skin
Before I grow a new one
